New home for Arrow
Arrow, (front right) went to her new home today. She's now a Bay area Cardi. We'll miss her, but wish her well with her new family!

TGIF
A new day, and eyes are opening! Six of the puppies have their eyes open today, the other three will most likely follow suit tomorrow.
I trimmed nails on their front feet again last night, amazing how quickly those little nails grow.
Four of the puppies have doubled their birth weight. That's always a nice milestone. The two littles are up to 12 plus ounces, and when I went in last night to give them a bottle they were stuffed to the gills after Tina fed them so didn't need to supplement. This picture is of six of them. The one with all the white off to the left is a boy, then it's girl, girl, boy, girl, boy from the top.

Getting bigger
I just went in to check on the puppies and found Tina Sparkle feeding them. This is the way she feeds them quite often now as they can all hook on at once. She also offered them her cookie, which I told her they wouldn't be able to eat it just yet. Amazing how instinctual they are. No eyes open yet, but some are almost so perhaps tomorrow. I talked with Andrea yesterday, Salsa's litter is doing well. I can't wait to see them again.

The girls

9 days old today
Nothing amazing to report today. The little munchkin girl still needs some assistance so I'm giving her a bottle feeding every two hours or so today. We'll see if that makes a difference. Her siblings are growing nicely. No eyes open yet, but that should be our next milestone, then ears open soon after that.

Look Ma, No Dew Claws!
Here's a group shot taken this morning. We did dewclaw removal yesterday. Andrea, brought Salsa and the puppies and they got theirs removed, too. Interestingly, my group had 5 with rear dewclaws, Salsa's litter, no rear dewclaws. I could have done them earlier, but wanted to wait til they were all gaining so yesterday was the day.

On the plus side
A good day today. All the puppies showed a weight gain from yesterday. My little one, who had lost each day, had a good gain, so that's very encouraging. It's always hard following a c-section as the anesthesia tends to slow down milk production for a few days. There's still some there, but not in abundance, and the littler puppies are the ones who lose out.
I supplemented the three smallest ones yesterday with formula, and it paid off. This morning when I went in to give them a bottle, they all had full tummies so had done a good job nursing on their own.
Here's a picture I just took, a jumble of puppies to be sure.
Also, just talked to Andrea, Salsa is doing very well, her crew all showed a gain today as well, so she's pleased.

A quick update
3 of the puppies gained a bit overnight, always a good thing. One stayed the same and the others lost a bit, so today we'll make a concerted effort to get those 5 back on track. It's hard after a section as that tends to slow down the milk production. I'm confident that we'll make some progress today.
And, an even quicker update on Tina's sis, Salsa. She labored on and off all day yesterday without result, so she was taken to Yorba Regional and they did a c-section last night. Apparently the first two were stuck, so that meant that no one could get out! Andrea's report last night, before she'd even seen the puppies was 5 girls and 3 boys, no idea on coloring at this time.

picture ID
The pictures should be identified as being on the top and on the bottom, not on the left/right. My preview page mislead me!
Happy Birthday to us!
After a very long night, and long morning into the afternoon, the puppies have arrived.
5 boys and 4 girls (girl #5 didn't make it).
Tina Sparkle had puppy #1 at 2:06 am, then puppies #2-8 between 4:20 and 7:25 am. She took a well deserved rest, but just couldn't get the other two out, so off to the vet's office we went, got there at 11:45 am. They did a c-section, the last two were stuck at the intersection, both trying to get out at the same time!
Good thing we went, she'd have never gotten them unstuck by herself.
Home again by 4:15 pm. The picture on the right is of the first three born, #1 (boy) on the right, #2 (boy) on the left and #3 (girl) at the top.
The picture on the left is Tina with the whole crew, hard to see but she looks happy to be home and taking care of her new family.
More later after I've had a nap!

Beautiful View
today's the day?
We are waiting patiently for Tina Sparkle to get something going. Her temp did drop at noon, to 98.3 so that's very hopeful. She also spent this morning rearranging her newspapers and bedding, another hopeful sign that she'll be popping out puppies sometime soon. Took this picture about 10 minutes ago, she's been very quiet for a couple of days, getting lots of rest and relaxation before the gang arrives.

Pembrokes, too
Sisters, Sisters
Just heard from Tina Sparkle's sister's owner, Andrea, that Salsa, (Rincon Let's Salsa) who is due the day after T.S. is expecting at least 8, possibly 10. The x-ray was a bit hard to read.
So, both girls will have large litters. They came from a litter of 10 so not surprising, but as I said before, just a bit overwhelming. I don't have a recent picture of Salsa, this is one taken at about 12 weeks or so, (Feb. '06)

Tentuplets?
We took Tina Sparkle to the vet's for an x-ray today to get a puppy count. She's due on Friday, though the docs think she won't make it that long. We saw ten puppies on the x-ray! Tina was one of ten, so not a huge surprise, but it is a bit overwhelming.
Tina's sis, Salsa, is also due this weekend, and I'm hoping we'll hear her puppy count news tomorrow.
Stay tuned!
