We Can Hardly Wait!

It's almost Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince time, and I can hardly wait. Brian and friends are going to the midnight show tomorrow night, so are Katie, Kit and Creig. Mom and I will go early Wed. morning, I think there's a 9:30 showing in Ventura we'll try to get into. I may put Brian onto ordering tickets online tonight.
No grand dog news to report, although I did get a nice call from the dark boy's new family. He's now Major, and is the love of their lives. Now if I could find homes for the remaining two girls who need places, I'd be very happy. Here's a pic I took of Freckles and Morgan a week or so ago.

Dog shows in Ventura

We spent the long weekend at dog shows in Ventura. Wednesday was set up day, we drove down and set up the EZ-up and the xpens, grooming table and chairs. Thursday was salon day, baths for Decker and Mr. Darcy, nails dremeled, coats blown dry. We packed up the van with all the other stuff we'd need, and headed down Friday morning for 8 am Parson Russell Terrier ring time. I helped our friend Lissa show her Parsons, then went and put the puppies in the xpen. 9 am was Cardigan judging, 10 am was Pembroke judging. Decker showed well, Mr. Darcy showed well, but no wins for us. We spent the rest of the day watching other breeds, chatting with friends and talking to folks about Corgis and Parsons and such.
Saturday morning, we headed down again (only a 20 minute drive which is so nice) and showed at 8 am. Decker was Winners Bitch for a 3 point major, which is very fun. Her uncle Redford came over to watch with his person, Christi. Then dashed off to see if help was needed with Parsons, and then back to the ring for Pembrokes. Mr. Darcy showed well, but no win. We watched our friend MaryAnn show her Lhasa Apso, Cosmo. I don't envy them showing all that coat in the wind! We also watched our friend Amy show Oliver, a Hermione son, in Rally Novice A and he got his third leg for his Rally title, he's now Rincon Oliver Twist, RN! Lissa's Parson, Ellie also got her title, so a good day in the Rally ring.
Sunday Parsons were at 8, Lhasas at 9:30 and Pems/Cardis at 1:35. Decker was triumphant again, only 2 points but I'll take it. Oliver and Ellie got insurance legs in Rally and Cosmo got a major reserve. Mr. Darcy didn't show, but he went along for the ride. Friday and Saturday we took the puppies, and they enjoyed meeting and greeting all the folks who stopped by to see them and marvel at how big Meg's ears are!

A life of leisure!

This is Hermione, lounging on the couch while I was working at the computer. What a nut.

A new experience!

Mom and I took the puppies to handling class last night, in Santa Barbara. They did very well, considering it's only the third time I've had them on leashes. We have been practicing standing on the table, and they both (R. J. and Meg) did that job with aplomb. They had a bit of trouble actually gaiting as the grass is quite deep and in places a bit mushy, but I was pleased with how they handled the new dogs and the new people. Freckles and the dark boy also got to go, and meet some of the other dogs, too. They were particularly taken with a 4 1/2 month old Border Collie.

4 month pics!

Here they are at almost 4 months. Wow, where does the time go?
From the top, RJ, (Rincon You've Got Male), Meg (Rincon French Kiss), the dark boy and Freckles. We've been working on leash training, which is going well after a somewhat reluctant start, and next week we hope to go to handling class!

Corgi Fun Day

We had a great time yesterday at Corgi Fun Day. It's put on each year by the Pembroke Welsh Corgi Club of Southern California. Several of us bring Cardis as well to join in the fun. We have a potluck lunch, which this year consisted of 20 feet of table loaded with yummy food. Stacy, our Fun Day chairperson, plans games for people and the dogs to play; Corgi tic tac toe was a hit this year and last. We have a raffle table that was great fun, there were over 75 items to try and win. (I won several!)
Mom and I took the four Cardi puppies, RJ is pictured asleep on his hippo toy after a long day barking at all the other Corgis that were there. We also took Mr. Darcy who thoroughly enjoys all the other dogs, and especially loves to play with his half brother, Oliver. We picked up Oliver and Amy in Camarillo on our way down, so the van was quite packed with dogs, chairs, food, xpens, EZup and anything else we thought we might need. It was sunny here when we left, but we hit rain a bit on the way down, and it did rain for an hour or so at the park, but only very lightly. One of our club members counted over 100 Corgis in attendance and they all seemed to be having a great time. We even have the park reserved for next year's Fun Day.

Getting caught up

Nothing really amazing to report. We've been busy doing lots of stuff. We bred Freddie (pem) on the 15th, and we're hoping it was a success. That was a quick drive up to Sacramento and back in two days. At least we got to watch Sweepstakes at the Golden Gate Pem Specialty which was fun.
Then back home to work on getting stuff ready for our S. Cal Pem Specialty, held in Pomona on the 21st. Mom and I were in charge of lunch for about 75 people, so we made lots and lots of brownies, bought a flat of strawberries in Oxnard, and made a triple batch of macaroni salad and a quadruple batch of chinese chicken salad. We also made gallons of lemonade and bought whipped cream for the strawberries and brownies. It was quite yummy.
We showed Freddie at the Specialty, she was 3rd in a class of 9, and then showed both Freddie and Decker at the all breed shows Sat/Sun. Nothing amazing to report there though they both showed well and we received some nice compliments from folks ringside!
We'll be at Corgi Fun Day on Saturday, the 6th in Anaheim Hills, and although it's put on by the Pem club we'll have tailed representation as well as the Cardi puppies will be there. I'm sure there will be a few other Cardis who show up, too.
It's always a fun day, lots of good food, a fun raffle and really fun games to play with the dogs.
